Due to our snow days this year, our last day will now be May 28th with an 11:30 dismissal. Pre-school's last day will be May 27th.

We scored a 🦃 on our sixth-grade field trip. A huge thank you to Echo Lanes for going above and beyond to make sure our students had a fantastic time bowling. We enjoyed a fun picnic lunch at Goold Park then wrapped up the day exploring local history at the Grundy County Historical Museum. It was a perfect mix of fun and learning!

On Tuesday, May 5th the SGS Music Department gave their final performances of the year. The SGS Chorus, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Beginning Band, Jazz Band, and solo/ensemble groups all performed. Annika Jackson & Aurora Jackson received the National Choral Award and Reese Harkins received the Director's Award for Band.

🐣 6th Grade Science is Hatching Excitement! 🐣
Our 6th grade scientists are diving into the fascinating world of embryology with a hands-on classroom experience—hatching chicks right before their eyes!
Students are observing each stage of development, learning how life begins, and tracking the growth of the embryos day by day. From candling the eggs to watching the first tiny cracks appear, the room is filled with curiosity, questions, and lots of excitement!
This engaging unit brings science to life in a way textbooks simply can’t. The students are having an absolute blast while learning about life cycles, responsibility, and the wonder of nature.

Our sixth graders had an incredible day exploring GAVC! They got a hands-on look at several career paths: Fire Science, Criminal Justice, Automotive, Welding, Building Trades, Health Occupations, Education, Computer Graphics, and Agriculture. Many of our students walked away excited about a future career that matches their passions.

Our 5th graders had an awesome day at Buffalo Rock State Park! Students explored the trails on a hike, worked together on a fun scavenger hunt, made solar bracelets, and enjoyed playing games.

Eighth grade students enjoyed a hometown field trip. Seneca Grade School treated all students to a flavored lemonade at Refuge Coffee&Co located inside the historic Graves Lumberyard building. Students then headed to the Seneca Area Heritage Museum where they completed a scavenger hunt to learn about a variety of topics related to the history of the Seneca area. Students were guided through the scavenger hunt by Mr. Jeff Maierhofer and three other historical museum volunteers. Students ended the day with some time at Crotty Park (named after our town’s founder Jerimiah Crotty) and even got to try out the new Gaga Ball Pit. Thank you to everyone who made sure our students had a memorable day.

Today was a great day to camp out in First Grade! The teachers transformed their classroom into a memorable experience, turning all of the student desks into mini camping tents! We wrote, read books, told stories, and sang around the camp fire. It was a great day to learn and make memories!

The First Grade traveled to the Seneca FFA Farm for a fun day of adventure! Students were able to enjoy fishing, a nature walk, making s'mores over the fire, practicing their lasso skills, and we even played some Gaga ball. Thank you Seneca FFA students and teachers for helping us have a memorable and fun day!

Science club students extracted DNA from strawberries at their end of the year party!

Mrs. Las’s and Mrs. Watkins's classrooms took some time to celebrate Ms. Wood and Ms. Skelton as they completed their Career Practicum for Seneca High School. We've loved having them observe and help out in our classrooms this semester. They will be missed!

Thank you to our school nurses! Mrs. Berg, Mrs. Burchett, and Mrs. Weygan stay busy at both the north and south campuses and do an amazing job caring for our students.

A highlight of Teacher Appreciation Week is the Regional Office of Education Excellence in Education banquet. We are proud to share this year’s award winners. They are Ms. Stephanie Jones, band; Miss Teresa, transportation director; Mrs. Dawn Vaughn, 2nd grade teacher; Ms. Rachel Cialoni, Student Services Coordinator and Dr. Ryan Hansen, Superintendent. We appreciate all they do to make SGS a special place. Congratulations to these amazing educators!
