Dear Preschool Families,

I hope this letter finds your family healthy and enjoying this unique summer.  We have been busy at Seneca Grade School creating a return to learning plan for our students.  Our current plan has been developed following the current guidelines provided by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education.  We will be offering in-person learning for Preschool students that adhere to those guidelines.  I would like to share some information specifically for Preschool.

These guidelines will affect our current Preschool program as it will limit the number of students that we can house within our program.  We will continue to use the practice to give priority to students that demonstrate higher level of need and the oldest students.  We will have a very limited number of spots for 3 year old students that passed all portions of the LEASE Preschool Screening.  At this time, all 4 year old students that have been screened or scheduled to be screened have been placed on a class list.  Four year old students may be placed in either morning or afternoon sessions.  Selected three year old students will attend in the morning.  Class list will be determined by August 21st and posted on our website.

September 8th will be the first day of attendance for Preschool.  This allows time for staff to adjust the program to follow the guidelines to meet the needs of students.  Each family will have an opportunity to meet the teacher and bring in supplies prior the first day.  These visits will be scheduled by staff and we ask all families to adhere to our building guidelines and wear a mask and we will limit the family to no more than 3 members (parent(s) and child).

Unfortunately, we can’t offer the same Preschool program that we have in the past with free interaction and play with students, yet our staff remains committed to providing the best experience for all students.  All students regardless of age are required wear a mask at school.  Families can provide their child’s mask and we ask that it fully cover the nose and mouth.  Students will have an opportunity to take masks off while outdoors and at snack.  We will increase opportunities for hand washing during the day.  Students will have their own supplies and work space.  Staff will sanitize and disinfect materials and toys after use.  We will seek opportunities to interact with one another will following the guidelines of social distancing.  We understand this is not an ideal situation, but we want to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

I appreciate everyone’s patience as we navigate through this difficult time.  Please feel free to contact me regarding any questions or concerns you may have and I will do my best to assist you.

Sincerely,

Lynn McGhee
