North Campus Parent Update March 30th

March 30, 2020

Dear Parents,

As shared by Mr. Misener this weekend, we will be utilizing remote learning as we move through this difficult time.  We remain committed to the safety and well-being of all students, staff and families.  There are few adjustments I would like to share for our North Campus students.

First, our primary mode of communication for North Campus will continue to be ClassDojo.  Every parent should be connected to their child’s homeroom.  Please visit https://classdojo.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/205417305-Create-a-Parent-Account#web for information about creating a parent account and connecting to each teacher.  If you do not have an invite code, please email me at lmcghee@sgs170.org and I will have an invite sent out to you.

We will have an attendance component for our remote learning days beginning on Wednesday April 1st.  Teachers will send families their specific method for checking each day on Tuesday March 31st.  Each day, all students should be checked in for the remote learning day with their teacher no later than 11:00 am.  If you are unable communicate via Classdojo or email, we ask that you call the office at 815-357-8744 option 2 to check in your child for attendance.  We are collecting attendance to monitor the participation and well-being of all students.  It is important that you check your child in every day we are in session through remote learning.

We will have paper packets available for pick up on Wednesday April 1st in the vestibule of the main entrance. The times of the pick-up will be 9-12 and 1-4  Tables will be set up for each grade level and we ask you adhere to the social distancing guidelines by only having one person enter the vestibule at a time and wait in the designated areas.  When you come in, you will take your grade level packet and we will have a drop box for completed and returned work.  There will be a designated “specific student pick-up” – if your child has something specific for him/her, a teacher will contact you and let you know that should go to that area, otherwise you will pick up the general grade level packet for your child.  The items in the packet will mirror what will be shared electronically.  You do not have to use a paper packet, this is only an option if you are unable to use electronic means.  This paper pick-up will continue each Wednesday we are in session through remote learning days.

To assist families with electronic devices, we will have the option for students in K-4th grade to check out their iPad.  This pickup will also be Wednesday April 1st, pick up will be between 9 am-12 pm.  The pick- up will be in the South gym and I ask you enter through the doors in the south parking lot.  Again, we will ask for only person per family to enter the gym and adhere to the social distancing guides we will have set up.  We will have a device check out for families to sign outlining the expectations for iPad usage.  If you are unable to pick up at this time, you can call the building and we can work to make other arrangements.

If you are interested in the breakfast/lunch program, please contact wcondon@sgs170.org to be added to the list.

Finally, I want to express my gratitude to the families, students and staff of Seneca Grade School.  This has been a difficult time with many unknowns.  The staff has done an excellent job navigating through this and continues to be committed to the success of each student.  Thank you for your support and help at home, without it, we could not be successful.

Please stay safe and healthy!

Lynn McGhee
