Fifth Grade
This quarter in Fifth Grade was all about composition. Students chose a partner and composed a piece of music that was later performed on recorder. Working together, students had to decide the form of the piece (AB or ABA), the rhythm, the pitches, and a title. They did a marvelous job! I was happy to see such creativity and use of musical concepts all rolled into one assignment. It was hard work, but the students tried their best and came up with some great compositions.
Our next unit will be Chorus. The students will learn about proper vocal technique (breathing, diction, musicality) as well as how to sing in an ensemble. The students will get to read 2-part music. This is great practice for when they are able to join chorus in 7th grade (which I hope they all do!)
