Note from Mrs. Hovious
February 3, 2012
Dear Parents,
This week has been a very busy week.
On Monday, we read a book called A Jolly Farmer for reading. This story was about a girl who pretended to be many things. Ask your child what things she pretended to be. We worked on reading and writing short o words. For writing, we wrote in our journals about our weekend. They completed a stop sign slide and an “op” matching page at their table while I worked with reading groups on the story Pop Got A Hit. In the afternoon, we worked on the second part of our reading lesson. We reviewed our story from the morning. We went to art class. We completed a math worksheet on the numbers 16 and 17.
Tuesday, I was not here. Mrs. Sprinkle read David’s Drawing. The children worked on a word building project at our tables. They read a book about Polar bears. They went to the computer lab and listened to the story Sledding. After the computers, they completed a beginning, middle, and ending page about the story from the computer lab. They worked on a counting math worksheet at the end of the day. They did a very nice job for the substitute.
On Wednesday,we really aged as we celebrated the 100th day of school. The children looked very cute as little old people. Thank you for sending your child dressed up and for sending in 100 items. We started off our day by finding 100 Hershey kisses in our room. We made 100 year old pictures. We counted 100 items. I worked with reading groups on the decodable What Can Two Do? The students wrote about what they would do if they had 100 dollars. We mixed all of our 100 foods items from home to make a special 100th day snack. It was an exciting day.
Thursday was Groundhog Day. We continued our reading center and short o work on Thursday. During reading time, the students worked on the “ot” family while I worked with reading groups. In the afternoon, we went to art, music, and gym class. We worked on groundhog activities at the end of the day.
We finished up our weekly reading lesson on Friday morning. During reading time, the children matched and read “ot” and “op” words with a partner. They reviewed the sight words what and two and wrote about Polar bears in the morning. We completed a Polar Bear book and made a project for our bulletin board.
Next week, we will work on the letters W and X. We will review our sight words.
Next week we will celebrate Wacky Wednesday on Wednesday, February 8th. Your child can come to school dressed in a wacky way. For example, two different colored socks, shirts on backwards, and jeans rolled up.
Enclosed is a missing letter worksheet. It is due on Monday.
The Valentine list for the class was sent home on Thursday. Please let me know if you have any questions.
We will have early dismissal on Friday, February 17th at 11:25 a.m.
There will also be no school on Monday, February 20th in honor of President’s Day.
Lastly, thanks for sending afternoon snack. Please watch for your child’s day.
Enjoy your weekend.
Sincerely,
Cheri Hovious
