IEP - Individual Education Plan
A child may be referred for speech/language services by any school personnel, parent/guardian or appropriate agency. Once a referral has been made, the district will hold a meeting with all parties involved to discuss what type of an evaluation needs to be done. After the evaluation has been completed, the parties will meet again to discuss the information gathered, decide on eligibility, and formulate the child's individual education plan or I.E.P.
The I.E.P. contains the following information: annual goals, short term objectives, service delivery type, amount of service per week, and any additional support services needed. Progress is reported in the form of I.E.P. goal and objective sheet which will accompany your child's report card. An I.E.P. is valid for one year. Prior to the termination date of the I.E.P. a meeting will be held to evaluate the child's progress and set new goals for the following year. Every three years a complete reevaluation will be done to decide if the child continues to require services.
A child may be released from speech/language services at any time, based on individual growth and improvement.
