Eligibility
Criteria for enrollment in the speech and language program in District 170 is based upon specific guidelines from the State of Illinois and the LaSalle /Putnum County Educational Alliance for Special education, of which District 170 is a member. Specific guidelines exist for each of the primary areas of speech and language impairment.
- Articulation Disorders
- Expressive and/or Receptive Language Disorders
- Voice Disorders
- Fluency Disorders
Eligibility for speech and language service is dependent upon two factors:
- The child must display a disability in one or more of the primary areas of speech and language, AND
- This disability must have an adverse effect on his/her educational performance.
Both of the above criteria must be met in order for a child to be placed in the speech/language program. A child displaying a disability in one of the primary areas mentioned, but doing well academically is not a primary candidate for services. School based speech and language services are not mandated for a child when there is no adverse effect on his/her educational performance.
