Classroom Management
On the first day, I talk about
rules. Together we make a list of rules. We create a
list of rules that are posted in the classroom. The one class rule
that I have is that no child will hurt another on the inside or
outside.
Our classroom stop sign monitors our
classroom behavior. Each student receives a clothespin (clip)
with their name on it. This clip stays in their tub.
Clips remain in
student's tubs until a behavioral problem occurs. If a
student misbehaves, he or she must move their clip on the stop
sign. For the first time, they move their clip to
green. This means a warning. If the student’s negative
behavior continues he or she will move their clip to yellow part of
the stoplight and take a five minute time out in the thinking
chair. If the student has another problem in the same day,
his or her clip will be moved to red. This results in a ten
minute time out in the thinking chair. Any other problems in
one day, a contact will be made home by the teacher. It isn’t
often that a child gets to red or is there a need for a home
contact. Each day clips are returned to students and
student’s behavior is monitored daily.
